Sumo Wrestling

Sumo wrestling is a traditional Japanese martial art and competitive sport in which two opponents, known as rikishi, face off in a circular ring called a dohyō. The objective of sumo is to force the opponent out of the ring or to make any part of their body, other than the soles of their feet, touch the ground. Sumo wrestling is characterized by its unique rituals, customs, and strict training regimens. The sport emphasizes a combination of strength, technique, and balance, and is deeply rooted in Japanese culture and Shinto traditions. Competitions, called honbasho, are held throughout the year, featuring rankings that determine the status and prestige of the wrestlers.
